DO YOU FANCY YOURSELF AS A STAND-UP COMEDIAN? OR A SPOKEN-WORD ARTIST?

On September 25, the Warwick Wingding – Peckham’s Music and Arts Festival – will be expanding into comedy, with talent corner for local comedians to take to the microphone.

We are looking for local talent to take part in the Wingding, a small local festival which runs annually in Warwick Gardens on Lyndhurst Way from noon to 8pm.

This year, on the main stage, we will have bands, choirs, soloists, rap artists – and in the Ivy House Beer and Talent Tent, a line-up of spoken artists. (To get some idea of last year’s event, log on to [www.youtube.com].)

Is one of those spoken artists or comedians you? If you are keen to show Peckham your talent, email Pull The Other One at comedyarts@googlemail.com.

Just wanted to give you the heads up - the Nunhead Community Choir is breaking for the summer, but starting again next September 16 with Lloyd Wade as a Guest Director who'll be joining us for 10 weeks. If you've heard Elizer Doolittle in the charts (currently number 5 I think) with the song "pack up", Lloyd is the guy you hear singing with her. He's a great guy and brings a wealth of experience with choirs and the music business generally.

If you'd like to join us everyone is welcome (however it is an adult choir, so noone under 18 please), there's no audition, just turn up at Ivydale School, Thursday evenings, 8pm through to 9.30pm. Thanks to a grant from the Peckham Rye and Nunhead Community Council, we're only asking for a one-off contribution of £20 per person.

We'll be working towards a Community Celebratory concert to mark our first year as a choir on 25 November, to which everyone is invited (venue to be confirmed).

Come and join us.

Dear All Nunheadians,

We are continuing our season of Edinborough Previews, and in true The Old Nun's Head style we have picked the best in Lincolnshire Comedy for your enjoyment.

This is the last time to see Gut Rocking founder, Joe Rowntree before he ventures up to Scotland, and making his Gut Rocking debut will be Miles Jupp.

Tickets for this and every show to follow will be £7.00, so the same standard of comedian but for less money, we are good to you!

Joe Rowntree

Peaceful Worrier

Star of Sky One's multi-award-winning hit TV series 'Brainiac: Science Abuse'and host of sell-out UK tour, 'Brainiac Live'; performs his hotly anticipated debut show.

A frank and funny story about the nature of worrying and how it shape's our lives. Joe's got plenty to worry about, from STDs in Africa to a dramatic end to a stag do in Barcelona ... he's even written the eulogy for his best
friends funeral - just in case! Joe's supported several top comedians on their national
tours including: Rhod Gilbert, Scott Capurro and Stephen K Amos.

Miles Jupp

Fibber in The Heat
(A Cricket Tale)
From BBC 2’s The Thick of It and BBC Radio 7’s Newsjack and BBC Radio 4’s News Quiz, this Perrier Nominee tells the sorry tale of how he attempted to become a cricket journalist by the unlikely, ill-thought out and dishonest method of pretending to be one. After pulling a few strings and telling some little lies, an unprepared and unqualified Jupp heads to India with the English press to embark on a month long, sun-soaked disaster (And some minor triumphs).

**** “I could, without a scintilla of exaggeration, listen to Miles Jupp every night of August and still not tire of his delightful wordsmithery and mellifluous tones”

The Scotsman

Tickets available at the bar, or message me back to reserve your spot.
If you have not done do already you can also register your details for a free drink at our website The Old Nuns Head.

Two hours of back to back hilarity, come down and watch 2 of the countries top comedians deliver their best material in preparation for Edinburgh. Remember Brendan Burns in 2008? Before winning Best Comedian he ripped up a rude set for Gut Rocking at the EDT, how many people still quote that night, I know I do.

Well this could be your opportunity to see this years winner in action. On Thursday June 10th we have Paul Sinha and Andrew Bird, see below biogs:

Paul Sinha
Edinburgh favourite Paul Sinha has spent much of the previous decade garnering rave reviews for his self-deprecating tales of his life as a GP, lovelorn gay bachelor, quiz fanatic and social coward. This year, he doesn’t want to discuss turning forty, because he has bigger fish to fry. A racist called him a racist. Paul would like to fight back.

‘An exceptionally skilled stand up.... truly wonderful’ Scotsman
‘A triumph...explosive punchlines and laser guided political asides.’ Independent On Sunday
‘Reassuringly intelligent and very funny’ Observer
‘Sublime punchlines’ Three Weeks
‘Extraordinarily funny’ Skinny
Andrew Bird

The Unlikely Lad, Andrew Bird is seen as just a lad, by everyone except for actual lads. As a white, English, straight, male he has plenty to apologise for. Everyone’s looking for something to feel part of, whether it’s a sense of national pride, a religion or a drunken stag do. A show about the consequences of trying too hard to be liked by everyone.
“A NATURAL COMEDIAN” The Stage
“BEAUTIFULLY OBSERVED AND INSIGHTFUL… A VERY FUNNY HOUR.” Chortle
“THERE'S AN UNDERCURRENT OF WISDOM, HOPE AND SELF-ACCEPTANCE WHICH DELIVERS MORE SOUL THAN MOST SHOWS” Fest
“EFFORTLESSLY ENGAGING AND FUNNY AS HELL"
Rhod Gilbert

We are selling tickets on line so to avoid dissapointment then please reserve your spot, message me back if you need a table.

Hope to see you there.

Cheers,

We Nunheaders have a radio show and it is on every Monday at 10:30 PM on Resonance FM 104.4, God Willing!
You should be able to get it over air in Nunhead but if you aren't tune to www.resonancefm.com.

'The Voice of Americans with Lewis Schaffer of Nunhead'
The only radio program in the world for Americans living in Nunhead and for Americans everywhere in Britain and for Nunheaders everywhere in Nunhead - North or South Nunhead (but with a distinct bias to those in the South - the Triangle between the Cemeteries)

Send me a message if you have something to promote or if you know of an American in Nunhead.
